The first Beckett's Baseball was issued in 1979, this just happens to conincide with the jump in the price of the 1952 Topps Mantle and a little bit later on the jump in the price of the '63 Topps Pete Rose Rookie.

So it could all be coincidence but I don't think so. Beckett's has been instrumental in the Rookie Card craze.
