Jeff D.I saw the episode tonight. I've not been to many live card/memorabilia auctions (I have been to several of the All Star Fan Fest auctions for instance), but I've never seen or imagined the frenzy amongst the bidders as seen in parts of the episode.
It looked more like a Topps rip party, and less like an auction with $60,000 items on the block.
But it was nice to see Hollywood giving sports memorabilia some recognition, even if the end result was just a further perpetuation of the notion that ultimately our hobby is overpriced and not "worth" the investment.
I also am not sure why a game-used jersey would go up in value if Koufax died. Maybe if it was autographed...but it's not like he's creating more game used jerseys from Cy Young winning years as he continues to live. The Picasso analogy didn't seem to fit, imo.
