I cannot answer that question. My guess it is just a labeling error due to ignorance of the team. The label on the holder should say "Boston Red Stockings", not "Boston Red Sox". It may have been the case that SGC could not fit the words “Boston Red Stockings” on the paper label. I guess they thought they could just shorten the team's name by putting “Boston Red Sox” on the holder, unfortunately, this is not correct.
