Default a major problem

Posted By: jay behrens

I'm all for having fun, but several people that like to post OT stuff in an active thread claim they do it because the thread is dead. The first thread about The Card was derailed, either on purpose or accidently. There are those here that would like to see that whole issue just go away.

The point is, who decides which thread is dead? Obviously, there was a lot left to talk about in The Card thread. Fighting through an OT post in the middle of an active thread is very hard because it takes on its own life and people that want to talk about the topic get discouraged because they have to wade through a bunch of crap to get to the stuff that is on topic.

As I said before, if you really find it necessary to post OT, do it in one of the Show Me Your... threads. If the claim is true that you start OT posts in dead threads, then these types of threads should be hotbeds for OT posts. You won't be killing off what could be an interesting and important thread.

I don't want to lay the blame only on those who start the OT stuff. Those that find it necessary to make an additional comment are just as guilty, if not more guilty, because then others feel it's OK to jump into. This makes keeping the thread on topic very difficult.

If it came down to brass tacks, I don't mind funny asides, etc, it's the people that have to jump in on those comments that irk me more than anything because that leads to the hijacking process and essentially kills a thread, whether it's dead or not.

I love pinatas. You get to beat the crap of something and get rewarded with candy.
