American Tobacco had to focus on the Giants. McGraw was THE baseball man on the planet. First place in 1904 and 1905. Second in 1906. Tied for second in 1908, but only a game behind the Cubs, tied with the Pirates. Third in 1909, second in 1910, then back to first in 1911. Seems that some of the players in the set are there for what they did 3 and 4 years earlier, Beckley, McGinnity, Jimmy Collins, Duffy... and then some are in there for what they were doing in 1910 or so, if they're on a 460 card, such as Zach Wheat.

Again, what I or someone should do is find club attendance records for 1905 through 1910, and compare that to the quantities of cards for the various teams depicted in the white border set. I think I've got that stuff somewhere, in a book. I just hate to start digging through the boxes until it settles in my mind where it would be. It's probably on the internet somewhere, too.

Ted, do you sort you cards completely alphabetical; alphabetical in groups of major leaguers, minor leaguers, and southern leaguers; or by team? Anyone out there still sort by team??
