Default Best Trade

Posted By: Dan Bretta

Back around 1987 after McGwire had his stellar rookie season his cards were HOT - I had about 50 of them that I had put away as I was really into the speculation side of rookie cards - anyway I would take 2-3 at a time down to Merle's, the local card shop and he would trade me old Topps cards which he couldn't sell. I picked up a 1957 Frank Robinson for 2 McGwire's...I traded 3 or 4 for Al Kaline's 1954 Rookie. I loaded up on 1950's and 60's rookie cards of Hall of famers because he just couldn't sell them and the McGwire cards were flying out the door. Too bad he never had anything older than 1948 Bowman in that shop or I would have discovered the joys of Prewar back in the 1980's when they were much more affordable.
