My recollection is that Seaver missed the last couple of weeks of the season with his knee injury, along with the playoffs and the world series. I distinctly remember that the Red Sox got special permission from the Commissioner to substitute Seaver back into their post-season roster if his injury healed.

I never heard the rumors that he deliberately missed the world series. I sure hope that's not true.
