Default Which sets do you think are ready to take-off price-wise?

If thinking about the next few years, and not literally just 2007, then I think the answer is ... T206's. When you're done laughing, read on.

I think there is still more price pressure to come on the middle grades, caused by registry competition at higher grades. Granted, this should bottom out somewhere around the 5's and 6's, maybe 4's, because collectors at this level won't be competitive in the registry with the 7/8/9 guys anyways, so they won't compete as fiercely with each other.

But I still think the middle grades have room to increase in price as non-registry collectors that just like nice cards drop out of the fray and settle for similar looking mid-grade cards at less competition-driven prices.

On top of that add the 100th anniversary of the set coming up in 1909. If the media machine gets ahold of that - probably in late 08 - look out. There will be tons of new people that want a T206 or two just to see, or look at - if not collect. There may also be new collectors and investors.

When they arrive on the scene, they will almost surely go for the cards in Grades 3 - 5. I can't imagine they'll want beaters - if it's a curiosity or nostalgic exercise. But they'll faint when they see the high-end prices, and happily grab great looking cards at reasonable prices (even if maybe more than they thought it would cost).

So ... T206's in mid-grades. IMO.
