If a 1976 Gretzky card or a 1957 Koufax card can sell for $80,000 each, I guess $282K for a 1952 Mantle is not as crazy as it initially sounds.

Personally I would never spend that kind of money on a postwar card. There are are least a two dozen prewar cards I would rather have. In fact, in the same auction, I thought the T206 Wagner that sold for just a little more was a much better deal.
