Well, my guess is that for a car or some other expensive item, it is readily apparent to others that there's some utilitarian value to the item. Whereas others consider baseball cards inherently useless so they figure the only reason you would buy them is there is some monetary value to them. It's ironic that items like cars depreciate from the day you buy them, but prewar cards have been appreciating for the last couple years.
That's our revenge. Laugh out loud.
