As a collector of photos, I prefer rare. If someone has a baseball card set in Mint condition, that means the cards are plentiful. There's nothing inferior with collecting plentiful, but that's not what I'm interested in ... Creating a highest grade set usually is an attempt to create rarity out of plentitude.

From my collecting taste, unless it has diamonds or a hood orniment, I don't know why someone would pay five figures for something where 10,000 other copies exist. This is why spending $58,000 or whatever for a 1957 Topps Sandy Koufax seems bonkers to me. I could buy two Near Mint Koufaxes and a Clemente for how much?, and someone would have a hard time convincing me I own the inferior copies.
