I don't know if that is technically a cabinet, and there are plenty here who will be able to help re uniform, but your dating sounds right based on the antique photos I've handled in the past.

There is a thread on eBay discussion board "Photography" that explains the definitions of the various types of photos, I've used it in the past, if you search for my ebay name, hoofaway, on that board's inner search engine, the thread should pop up.
