At first I think he really didnt know it was fake. Originally he didnt know what set the card was from, then he was sort of greedy (relisting it with a reserve) when he found out it had a high book of $9,000+. Most scammers dont end auctions early to relist higher. By the 3rd auction (or was it the 4th) I think he knew it was a fake, and he then listed it in a 3 day auction with a $1,500 BIN.
