I do recall articles in The Old Judge, Mr. Lipset's newsletter of about 15 years ago, and it had stuff about the printing of the cards, including the different layers of paper on the cards. I wonder if the stuff in the article to which you refer might have come from the articles in The Old Judge. My recollection is that there were a series of 3 articles.
