Joey,
In my opinion, by bidding over $1,000 so far in advance of the auction close, all you did was lure other prospective bidders to a poorly listed auction. I am sure that the auction would have ended the same way, but in the future, I would adhere to a fundamental principle of ebay bidding -- any bids made earlier than 20 seconds before the close of the auction only hurts your chances of winning at the price you want to pay.
