warshawlawLots of well-heeled collectors are getting into the vintage aspects of the hobby, lots of real estate money is sloshing around making people feel richer than they might otherwise feel, and lots of long-time collectors fearing a price rush are reaching for cards at the edges of their budgets in the fear that they will be unaffordable in the near term. I think the latter is the most significant factor driving low-grade and mid-grade sales to new heights. I can't afford $10k for a 7 but I could reach and pay $1k for a 3, and I better do it now before the 3 moves up another $500 is how the thinking goes. I've purchased cards in far worse conditions for far more than I would have thought possible recently.
I was at a show recently and overheard some dealers complaining about how they had so much cash available but nothing to purchase in the vintage field.
