Default Why are 1911 S81's called "silks?"

Posted By: andy becker

i'm a bit afraid of being laughed at too....but here goes..

silks (s81, s74-1, and s74-2) were made of fabric and were intended to be sewn together to form a blanket, pillowcase, or other home decor items.

i suppose technically they should be called satins instead of silks....

next question....can anyone tell me why L-1's are called leathers?
