I can understand the genesis of the concept--wanting to wait until the phones closed down when the auctioneer needed to field individual calls, tally the results, etc., and people could not get through to make their bids before a closing time. But with instantaneous internet bidding, I don't see why responsible adults cannot make note of the closing on a lot and bid in a timely manner as they would have to on Ebay.
