you have to think of the player. Averages dont make a great player fielding can. he played in quite a hard league at the time. wagner, cobb, jackson, matty, johnson, willis, alexander, etc etc. like for the time, his stats could have been vary good. i;m not trying to defend him, but look at alot of the stats for a third basemen, not alot of them had higher avg. or fielding %then him. also it helped him to get in was the famous fraz "tinker to evers to chance". by todays standards he shouldnt be in......
