Kevin CummingsNo argument here that Scott's offerings and reputation often influence the the bidding in an upward fashion, but I think this is simply the classic case of two bidders aggressively pursuing an item they both wanted.
I know the underbidder (a very nice older gentleman) and he collects primarily graded material and is not shy about paying over book (sometimes way over) to get what he wants. He lost out here to a more determined bidder, but that doesn't happen often.
