JohnRuth, even today, is the symbol of American baseball. In his time he was bigger than the game. The culture of the 1920's thrived on feats and accomplishments. Ruth was in the right place at the right time. There is no doubt that Ruth took care of his own needs, but he was also good to his fans. Wagner was recognized in his time as a great player, but never became the larger than life icon like Ruth. Pittsburgh still embraces Wagner as one of their own. My "love" with Wagner stems from his loyalty to the city of Pittsburgh.
