Default Our love with Wagner

Posted By: Rhys

Bill James is a smart guy, but 100% biased and wrong very often. In one of his books he basically says Lefty O'Doul was an overrated ballplayer and compares him to Mike Easler. Wagner to Hornsby? Wagner was probably better but give me a break with that comparison.

Also, Cobb gets a raw deal in this era. His numbers are better than Wagner and although Wagner was a better fielder, Cobb was the most dominant player in the game during his time and could take over a game all by himself. His lifetime average is 40 points higher than Wagners during the same era. Give the fielding edge to Wagner and the baserunning and mental edge to Cobb and all you have left is two guys with batting averages forty points apart from each other during the same era. Everything I have ever seen or read from the 1908-15 era places Cobb in a league of his own with no peers. Just my opinions but I do not get people's obsession with Wagner.
