I agree whole heartedly with your sentiment of the original post but would like to correct one sentence ever so slightly. The thought of money being the root of all evil needs to be corrected based on the original quote. That would be from the Bible, and the actual reading is (paraphrazed) "the love" of money is the root of all evil. Money is merely a medium, but it is each person's lust for that money and what it will provide that can lead to evil.
