Default Just curious- who out there is collecting these sets?

As I've said in above post, having almost completed this set, I
must agree with you on most of your observations. And, include
some additional comments.

Cicotte was not that tough for me, and I attribute this to the
fact I started on this set before the "Black-Sox" phenomena.
He was one of the very first cards I acquired. Smokey Joe is
tough. I am surprised you did not include McQuillen (Cinc.) in
your list of tough ones. I did not acquire him till I almost
completed this set.

Another observation you made I totally agree with is that the
"black" backgrounds are not as tough as some make them out to
be. I first went after the BLUE backgound variations because a
veteran collector told me they would be tough. When I acquired
most of them I thought it would be "easy cruising" for the rest
of the set. By no means was this true.

Your final note on the condition of most M116 cards, I concur
with. I had no trouble putting together an Ex to Ex/Mt set. Of
couse this was mostly before ebay and graded cards came into
popularity. So, this set was not too expensive at that time.
McQuillen was the most expensive for me. I paid $600 for a VgEx
card of him.
