My mom bought a William Hogarth (famous 18th century British painter) engraving at a garage sale for $3. She had little idea what it was and said if the sticker said $5 she would have passed ... Soon after I visited her and asked why she had the print on her dining room table (She doesn't leave things lying around). She said she was going to cut off the side borders so it would fit into frame she got at Target. I suggested it might be better to get a larger frame.
