tbobthat Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex were both stabled in Hot Springs, Arkansas in the Spring and ran in the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby (both won) at beautiful Oaklawn Racecourse here. 
Bit of an Arkansas connection. The Arkansas Derby winner never gets his due but Tank's Prospect, Lil E Tee, Elecutionist, Pine Bluff, Smarty Jones, Afleet Alex and many, many more have won Triple Crown races.
Hey when you have a mediocre college football and basketball team in the same year, you are glad for horse racing! That and the fact the University of Arkansas AGAIN won the NCAA indoor and outdoor NCAA men's track championships for the zillionth time. Truly the greatest collegiate sports dynasty ever (and probably the least known).
