There were two key events that led to my ability to post a scan. First, someone (I think it was Julie) mentioned that you cannot post a scan larger than 150KB. Most of my scans are larger. Second, I bought a new computer and the photo editing software that it came with has an icon that says something like "compress photos for posting on the web." With those two key bits of information, I used all of the mental tools available to me and was able to post an image.
