What John fails to mention is that he is one of the nicest guys in the hobby and always considerate of other's collecting needs. I try to reciprocate with about 7 or 8 other guys who won't bid on something if I am high bidder and they know I really want it. I have missed out on some bargains but friendships are more important plus I have made innumerable off ebay deals with some of my collecting buddies. The only thing that throws a kink in to the whole procedure is a sniping service. There have been several times a friend and I both run each other at the very end because neither knows the other is bidding with a sniper.
The easiest way to handle things is a simple email to some one you see bidding on an item you want, to see if it is something he really wants or more importantly, a card that is necessary for completing a set.
It doesn't always work, sometimes even the best of friends battle it out but cooperation is great and rewarding.
