For anyone that may be following this thread, here are a couple more observations that I should have noticed earlier.
The two different depths of the box (shallow 5/8" & deeper 7/8") seem to coincide with cigarette quantity. The tax stamps on the shallower 5/8" packs indicate 10 cigarettes. The tax stamps on the deeper 7/8" packs indicate 20 cigarettes. A bit strange that double the quantity doesn't correlate to double the depth but some of this could be explained by the way individual rows nest with each other.
For instance, the higher quantity 20 packs are deeper as already stated, but also a small bit wider which might allow for the rows to nest with each other resulting in higher pack efficiency. The shallower (and slightly narrower) 10 pack may force the two rows to lie on top of each other (no nesting).
