Default Since when...

Actually, I have been outbid a lot more than typical in the past on the prewar stuff I collect. It is all very hot right now. If I was a true arbitrager, I would trade off as much of the appreciated prewar stuff as I could for as many of the "cold" postwar tough issues as I could find. After all, collectors who are priced out of the old stuff will move to other cards to get their fixes.

The Old Mill and Contentnea popularity are understandable if you look at the cards. They are very nice. I wish similar formats had been used for MLB cards.

I agree with the C46 comment. Got my first one recently--another really nice looking set.

If you want reasonable prices and challenges, try boxing cards. Still quite affordable and parallel to the baseball cards in terms of diversity, scarcity, designs, etc. One other sports set to consider is the T230 athletes by Pan Handle Scrap. I just got my first ones and I was really surprised at how nice the cards are. They are modern card sized, have a B & W photo with minimal colorization (the flesh is toned), a clean design, glossy surfaces and good bios on the backs. Too bad they are not baseball.
