It is MENTIONED by Watson as a tale "the world is not yet ready for," in one of the Sherlock Holmes stories..naw, I don't know which one. The Firesign Theater put out an album by that name in 1974 (I think they were a quite good comedy group), and a man wrote a not-so-hot novel called "Sherlock Holmes and the Giant Rat of Sumatra" fairly recently..
