PaulI guess I'd have to say "it depends". The more I could convince myself that the cabinet card was available in some way to the public, the more I would consider it a "card," and the more likely I would bid on it. But if it was just made for the player or his family, or otherwise was unavailable to the public, I wouldn't.
I do think cabinet cards are often very nice, and if I had unlimited funds, I would collect them. There's a beautiful McGraw with Baltimore, Chesbro with a minor league team, and lots of other great ones. If I had the money to buy them, I would treasure them more than most of my cards. But I wouldn't want the McGraw with Baltimore to be my only McGraw, or the minor league Chesbro to be my only Chesbro. I want to have a regular card of all HOFers.
