Default Help please

Posted By: Mike Floreani

I am a 25+ year casual collector of pre-war baseball cards and just came across this great forum tonight.

Can someone help me in identifying a set of 4 strip stamps I have been uanable to figure out for the many years I have owned them? I have combed through the chronological list at oldcardboard.com and cannot find a match.

I have tried posting a .jpg image with this post, but could not get the upload function to work.

The 4 stamps are multi-colored cartoon like drawings of 4 players, each depicting the player's whole body in an action pose. They are printed on white paper. The players are (from left to right) Larry Doyle (NY Nat.), Frank Smith (Chi), Tim Jordan (Bkn.), and Tommy Leach (Pitt.). From my research in the Baseball Encyclopedia, it looks like the only years the 4 played in commom were 1907-1910.

Each stamp measures approx. 1.75' X 1.50" and are connected in a strip. The back was issued blank, but an old advertising stamp was added in blue ink which reads, "Aaron J. Kantz, Telehone Engineer, Coldwater, Mich." Next to this is a circular stamp in blue ink which reads (inside the circle) "E.G. 464985."

I recently saw Steve Verkman auctioning a single stamp that looked very similar. He identified it as a German issue. Why, I don't know. Here is his link: http://www.csauctions.com/item.cgi?show_item=0000219709

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
