Juliepictures of real, individual players, are a drag, like the Buchner and the "Major League Die Cut" (1925, I think--Kit young is selling a bunch).
Many of the sets you mention are, while not my very favorites, much liked by me--the 1938 Goudeys, especially the ones with comments on them, and the '35 Goudeys--in really GREAT condition, they're beautiful cards, and those puzzle backs are a trip.
Some of the M.Ps--as someone said, first bunch came out in '43--bear SOME resemblance to players. DiMaggio, for instance.
