Default M116 Cy Seymour Baltimore Variation

Posted By: scott brockelman

as you know the cards exists in 2 different print processes, lipset had the finished 300 series back as well as the blank back, black & white versions. i also have one of the blank back, black & white versions. my question is what is the black & white one? it is on actual card stock, not cardboard like as ad piece and why would they pick cy seymour who changed teams for an ad piece of all peoplem, as sporting life always used top notch players in their ads. printers scrap? doesn't look like it but both the lipset card and mine are handcut.

of very much importance is the fact that i have a sporting life ad paper poster from 1910 that lists cy seymour in the 7th series as being on BALTIMORE not New York! but according to the baseball almanac he had not played for Baltimore for several years. i also have a series 7 envelope that the cards came in, which lists him with New York Nationals. i would say it is safe to say that the Baltimore version was printed 1st. so perhaps the few cards that are black and white are left over unfinished runs, but as i have only seen 2 they must be extremely rare as well.

does anyone on the board have this card in any form to compare with?
