The prices can be just downright crazy, but I think that the speaker w/drum back that sold recently on ebay was a fair price and did demonstrate a premium.
I prefer lowgrade (or at least I say prefer as an excuse because I can't afford the higher stuff)hofers with different uncommon backs. It's fun if you like the different backs to acquire a few with a "star" player on the front.
I've heard too of collectors persuing a master set of t206 and I'm not going to say that it is not possible, but I will say that it will be very difficult to determine certain front/back combinations' existance such as the red hindus. It's hard to chase a ghost. Do blank backs count in these master sets? I don't know, but it's interesting to think about! Also, many collectors just won't budge with there prized hofers with the more rare backs...unless you really throw the dollars around.
