Jay MillerHey Gary, no one is putting a gun to other owner's heads and preventing them from spending money to build a competitive team. BTW, the Yankees actually spend more than the $180 million since they have to provide handouts to all the low payroll teams. Also, when the Yankees come to town they bring big crowds into local ballparks which also enrich the coffers of these other clubs. I understand that some teams don't have the fan base and the TV revenue to support big payrolls. However, some like the Chicago teams, the LA teams, the Houston and Dallas teams, Red Sox etc do. Steinbrenner is a great owner because he wants to build a winning product. He spent money to make money. He is the best thing ever to happen to Yankee fans. I admire the Twins and the A's because on a small budget year in and year out they put a great product on the field. Hats off to their management. The teams that annoy me are the White Sox and the Dodgers who have a fan base and a TV base to spend big bucks to build a superior team and year in and year out still stink(Dodgers will be gone today).
