Brock, I bought these and they were painted brown, I used goof off and removed the brown paint, this is what was underneath. The good off did not affect the original color. Brown is not the original color.

The 2nd picture are some made into bookends.
The 3rd picture is the brown color of the newer recasts.

Mike, I would check and test on a back part to see if you get the same result.
