Actually Barry, most cities in contention will pre-produce World Series tickets for their respective home venues in anticipation of being in the World Series even before the pennant games begin, so they will be prepared beforehand and have an ample supply of tickets way in advance. Such tickets are supposed to be destroyed if they lose the pennant, but sometimes "resourceful" people with inside access manage to save tickets from the shredder and smuggle them out, hence the rare "phantom" ticket. They are listed in memorabilia price guides. Pretty interesting stuff and as you said, a type of "fantasy" item even though they are legitimately produced to be actual World Series tickets in anticipation of the team winning the pennant.
