As for the 1929 Star Picture Stamps Exhibit, we obviously track different venues. The two price citations I have in my mark-up copy of last year's book show an EX sold for $359 and a VG-EX for $173. In my newly begun marking up of this year's catalog, I note the sale of a NM specimen at $604; much closer to the 2005 price of $600 than the $800 figure in the 2004 book.
Much of what you say in your overall look at Exhibit pricing has some validity, and will be given due consideration in the future, but I assure you that (for the most part) I don't pull the pricing out of thin air.
