ramramThe cabinet cards were certainly the form of photography at this point in time but, absent a uniform, a pencil ID is very suspect. It may well be identified correctly but, considering all the crooks out there, you never know who might take one of the millions of civilian cabinet cards out there and match it up with a similar looking ballplayer and put a pencil ID to it. It does help if the ID is in pen as the ink from that period of time has usually oxidized into a brown color. There is also a certain style to writing during that time that can help determine if the writing was from that period.
