Default net 54 type collection - PART 2

Posted By: Kevin Cummings

The supposition is that all the cards in circulation were part of a single test market issue produced as a prototype for a prospective investor or manufacturer. Despite the legend on the reverse, I don't recall if research actually turned up any company named the Allegheny Card Company during the time at which the set was produced in either Allegheny, Pennsylvania or Detroit, Michigan. All the cards were supposedly hand cut. They were intended to be game cards like the Fan Craze sets although these cards are a tad thinner than those. Only National League players are pictured. The entire boxed set was discovered in the late 1980s and then auctioned off a couple of time intact before they were broken up for individual sales. Lew Lipset owned the entire set at one time, I believe, and then sold at least half of the 104 cards to Sportscards Plus. I got the Cooley from them.
