The * has been officially removed from Maris, although it was removed after his death. With that in mind if Ichiro does break Sisler's hit mark, there will be no * either.
Ford Frick the commish in 1961 was a friend of Ruth's and his former ghost writer, he came up w/ the idea of the * to preserve the "integrity" of the game. He died in 1978.
