Default Peck & Snyder once again...

Posted By: Hal Lewis

I have heard back from the NYPL as to the research that they were doing for me. Here is what they found:

In EVERYTHING that was printed in 1869 and BEFORE (city directories, Beadle's Dime Guides, newspapers)... the address for Peck & Snyder was 105 Nassau Street.

In EVERYTHING that was printed in 1870 and AFTER... the address was listed as 126 Nassau Street.

There are NO listings for the 22 Ann Street address... except on the few Peck & Snyder cards AND the store receipt that was found... so clearly the 22 Ann Street address was not around for very long. Unfortunately, everything back then was only printed ONCE a year, so anything that happened within that year span would not be reflected.

The Peck & Snyder receipt indicates that the 22 Ann Street store MOVED to 126 Nassau Street on May 1, 1870...

but there is still no definitive proof as to whether or not the 126 Nassau Street location was already in existence at this time and operating simaltaneously with the nearny Ann Street store (one block away)... or whether the 126 Nassua was actually a REPLACEMENT for the Ann Street store.
