Weightlifting helped players in the 60s and 70s stronger, as did better diets and training methods. Do players that benefited from this get their achivements discounted too? The legality agrument doesn't wash, since the Balco drugs weren't illegal.

Every generation benefits from new training, methodology and technology. And the older generations always complain about what the new generation is doing. And 30 years from now, I doubt anyone is going to be worried about whether or not Bonds, or anyone else for that matter took steroids. Look to Maris and his 1961 season as a prime example of this effect.
