Restoring/cleaning coins and furniture is a no-no as far as value goes for those items, but with art and movie posters, there is effect on value, and most likely an increase in value if cleaned or restored. I am sure there are many other examples. It just depends on the standards for that area collectible. Card collecting seems to be in a state of flux as to where it is going to eventually end up.
