Default Colgan's Squares (aka Proofs)

Hi all,

I'm sure this topic has been broached before, but what is the consensus on the history and status of the square cards which appear to have the same player portraits which are found on the Colgan's Chips. I've heard some say they are proofs. I recently purchased a Gus Getz (the only Boston NL square I have ever seen) and was wondering what to call it. Any thoughts....
