As with many news sites, MSNBC.com uses those instant polls which I love to hate. The current one is as follows.

'Who is greatest cyclist ever?'

a Lance Armstrong (Won in 1999-2003)
b Bernard Hinault (1978-79, 1981-82, 1985)
c Miguel Indurain (Won in 1991-95)
d Greg LeMond (Won in 1986, 1989-90)
e Eddy Merckx (Won in 1969-72, 1974)

My guess is that 5 percent of the people who took the poll ever read the name Eddy Merckx until they read read it as choice e, and 10 percent had never heard of Hinault until the read choice b.

I am confident that if Emmitt Smith was choice d, he would have received more votes than Merckx, Hinault and Indurain combined.
