True, Jay. 19th century paper photographs had to be pasted to cardboard backing or such (ala Old Judge or cabinet card), because 1) The photographic paper was so thin that it to be reinforced/protected and 2) if it was not pasted to a backing, it would roll up into a tight, little 'cigarette' over time.
