HankronI follow the fine arts areas on eBay. With the obvious fake Picasso signed sketch or similar, there is often the usual "I'm not an expert, I usually only sell beanie babies. Cannot guarantee authenticity. Bid accordingly." The fakes and disclaimers don't amaze me as much as the people who actually bid good (or any) money on the items.
A woman approached me with what she was convinced was an authentic 'Picasso signed colored sketch.' She had found it in the wall of her renovated Oklahoma house (That fact alone should cast doubt alone on the authenticity). It obviously was not by Picasso. It looked nothing like his stuff, and the signature wasn't even close. Likely it was made by a 10 year old student imitating Picasso.
I asked the woman why she was so sure it was a genuine Picasso.
"Because it has his name written at the bottom," she said.
